White Interns at Camp Cooley Ranch®

For Immediate Release

Franklin, TX - Katy White, Red Rock, Arizona, recently completed a summer internship at Camp Cooley Ranch®, Franklin, Texas. Her duties were varied on the central Texas ranch and provided her with an opportunity to learn detailed aspects of the purebred business.

Camp Cooley Ranch® is home to over 3,000 head of registered Charolais, Angus and Brangus cattle, a large commercial cattle and hay operation as well as exotic wildlife. They are currently listed by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association as the third largest seedstock producer in the nation and was the 2004 Beef Improvement Federation Seedstock Producer of the Year.

White, who graduated in the top 10 of her Marana High School class, showed Brangus, Hereford and Shorthorn heifers while growing up and this sparked her interest in the Camp Cooley internship. In addition, she is an active member of these junior organizations and is a member of the International Junior Brangus Breeders Association (IJBBA) national board of directors. She has shown cattle from California to Texas and is a member of the Arizona National Livestock Show as well as the Southern Arizona Livestock Exposition Show.

“I was visiting with Cheramie Viator, Camp Cooley Ranch® about work experiences and learned about their internship program. I was thrilled to be chosen and my summer was exciting. I feel I gained first hand knowledge of how a ranch is operated and how important marketing and record keeping are for any size operation,” she explained.

White’s duties included data entry, general office work, assisting with registering and transferring of cattle, as well as customer relations. In addition, she spent time in working with the 1,200 head of bulls Camp Cooley Ranch® will be selling in November and assisting with the various events on the ranch.

During the summer, she was part of Camp Cooley’s inaugural Charolais production sale, an Angus field day, a junior Charolais leadership camp, ranch tours and worked the Camp Cooley Ranch® trade show booth at the Texas A&M University Beef Short Course, which attracted over 1,200 cattlemen. She also attended the IJBBA National Brangus Show as an exhibitor and assisted other Camp Cooley junior customers at this prestigious show.

White says that she would encourage anyone to consider interning and gaining on the job skills, as she feels this summer was very educational and will play an important role in her future in agriculture.

She is the daughter of Clay and Roni White of Red Rock.
