

Camp Cooley Ranch® Expands to Alabama
For Immediate Release
September 7, 2005 Franklin, TX - Camp Cooley Ranch®, headquartered in Franklin, Texas has announced the
acquisition of the Ray Johnston Registered Brangus herd and the creation of
Camp Cooley Ranch®-Alabama, a joint venture between the two entities. This
division will operate from the Johnston Farm at the Letohachee, Alabama
location.
"We are excited to have this herd as part of our program and to be
working with Ray. He provides tremendous creditability and an outstanding
reputation as a cattle breeder in the Southeast. These assets are invaluable
to our joint venture. Camp Cooley Ranch® will be leasing the ranch, providing
the day-to-day management with current, manager Mark Eagerton and supplying
additional Camp Cooley genetics," said Mark Cowan, president, in making the
announcement.
The Johnston family is recognized as a prominent ranching family, and
the program is located located south of Montgomery. The herd is strong in
Heldon Ranch, Camp Cooley Ranch® and Cow Creek breeding. In addition,
Johnston is a partner in Bright Side of Brinks, one of the most popular
bulls ever in the breed. Several of his daughters are now part of the herd
and the bull will continue to be used in the program.
The joint venture will be known as Camp Cooley Ranch®-Alabama and
upcoming events include a field day at the Alabama location on October 1st
and a 150 head bull sale with members of the Alabama Breeders Association on
December 10th in Letohachee at the Mid States Stockyard.
Camp Cooley Ranch® includes over 3,000 head of registered Brangus,
Angus, and Charolais cattle, a large commercial cattle and hay operation as
well as exotic wildlife.
In addition, the program offers extensive customer services. They have
over 70 cooperators, representing 15 states and a wide range of marketing
services, including a Customer Appreciation Sale available to these
registered producers, who utilize Camp Cooley genetics. Their Producer
Return Enhancement Program (P.R.E.P) offers a full slate of services and
marketing options for commercial calves and replacement females. They have
established relationships for their customers with Irsik and Doll Feedyards,
Hondo Creek Cattle Co., Sam Kane Beef Processors. McElhaney Cattle Co., and
Brawley Beef, as well as Jordan Cattle Auction's special sales.
Camp Cooley also has industry partnerships established with Purina
Mills, Fort Dodge Animal Health and AgriLand to assist their customers in
the areas of herd health, nutrition and financing.
It is owned by Klaus Birkel and is currently ranked as third largest
seedstock producer in the nation.
