

Laredo Tops Offering at $82,000 Pushes Gross Over $4 Million

Franklin, TX - The final leg of the three-day Blazing New Trails Sale at Camp Cooley Ranch®, Franklin, Texas, ended in grand fashion as 1,030 total lots grossed $4,009,850 to average $3,893. The high demand for Camp Cooley genetics from all three breeds; Brangus, Angus and Charolais, was proven by the packed house and active bidding served up on all three days of the sale.
A deep line-up of herd sires and donor females drove up the sale's strong final average but the sale barn was packed with progressive commercial cattlemen from over 20 states purchasing rancher bulls ranging in price from $1,500 to $5,000.
The Angus offering led off Saturday's sale with the popular Cooley Laredo 163P14. This son of the carcass legend CA Future Direction 5231 packed together chart topping performance with exceptional carcass numbers ranking in the top 1% in the breed for $ Beef with a $55.14 along with low birth and high growth. Active bidding on Laredo finished at $82,000 with the final bid being placed by Mike Rutherford, Rutherford Ranches in Houston, Texas for full possession and one-half semen interest in this exciting young sire.
Starkey Lazy S Ranch in Dallas, Texas selected the second high selling Angus bull of the day, Cooley El Paso 4919 for $17,000. El Paso combined a “tool box” full of traits to build with and lined up rock solid stats for lowering birth weight and improving carcass merit. Bill Starkey purchased full possession and one-half interest in this yearling Future Direction son.
116 coming 2 year-old Angus bulls averaged an impressive $4,143 and 158 fall yearling Angus bulls wrapped up the Angus offering with an average of $2,400. 274 total Angus bulls averaged out at $3,137.
Cooley Winchester 4626, a VWC Ultimate Wind son topped the Charolais offering for $10,000. Rusty Taylor from Port St. Lucie, Florida, purchased this yearling whose rare combination of rugged good looks, functionality and performance made him a sale favorite.
Finishing a close second was Cooley Hawken 116P9. Rainbow's End Ranch, Jason Schoenfelder, Buffalo, Texas raised their hand to purchase full possession and one-half interest in this wide based Hoodoo Crook son for $9,000. Hawken posted impressive growth and carcass numbers in a flashy, functional package.
The three day sale finished with the Charolais offering and 48 spring coming 2 year old bulls who averaged $3,740. A larger offering of 130 fall yearlings averaged $2,869 and 11 Range Fire bulls (Charolais x Red Angus cross) averaged $2709.

The next Camp Cooley Ranch® bull sale will take place in Letohachee, Alabama on December 10 th . 150 quality assured Brangus bulls will sell in the inaugural Camp Cooley Alabama bull sale which will be held in conjunction with members of the Alabama Brangus Breeders Association.
