Camp Cooley Ranch Hosts Customer Appreciation Sale

Franklin, TX - Camp Cooley Ranch, Franklin, TX hosted its annual Customer Appreciation Sale and Spring Bull Sale, featuring Brangus, Charolais and Angus cattle on March 28th and 29th. The Making Good Things Happen Sale was again a hot-spot for producers from around the country to load up on breed changing genetics.

The two-day sale offered both registered and commercial lots from Camp Cooley Ranch’s cooperators as well as Camp Cooley cattle. The March 28th sale featured registered and commercial Brangus females.

The March 29th bull sale grossed $1,154,600.00 on 433 registered bull lots for an average of $2,666.51.  The Customer Appreciation Sale grossed $951,650.00 and averaged $1,995.07 on 477 lots. The Commercial Females grossed $477,075.00 and averaged $1,347.67 on 354 lots.

The high selling Brangus bull was Sequoia of Brinks 240T3, a spring Brangus Bull selling for $40,000 to RRR Ranch, Claxton, GA. The second high selling bull was a spring Brangus bull, Escalade of Brinks 541T17, selling for $12,500 to Ronnie and Paula Donaldson, Ft. Towson, OK.  70 fall Brangus bulls averaged $2,983.57 and 128 spring Brangus bulls averaged $3,085.94.

Tying for high selling Angus bull sale were two fall bulls with a earning a winning bid of $5,500; Cooley Kaufman 700S9 sold to Jonathon Watson of Havana, AR and Cooley on Target 722S96 sold to Chip Durand of Martinville, LA. 46 fall Angus bulls averaged $2,719.57 and 111 spring Angus bulls averaged $2,003.60.

In the Charolais bull sale the $5,250 dollar Cooley Firebird 1107T38, a spring Charolais bull sold to Donald Bumpurs of Marquez, TX.  Cooley Karnes 8017S16, a fall bull, sold for $4,500 to Summit Farms of Iowa Falls, IA. 17 fall Charolais bulls averaged $2,670.59 and 60 spring Charolais bulls averaged $2,447.50.

A flush out of JAK Miss Geronimo 468L3, to the bull of the buyer’s choice, sold for $9,000 to top the flush offerings.  This phenomenal female was Champion at the National Junior Heifer Show and International Brangus Show in Houston. She has also produced daughters that headline donor programs both in the U.S. and Australia. Her son, Nueces, sold for $20,000 in the 2007 Camp Cooley Ranch Fall Bull Sale.

The high selling Camp Cooley Ranch Brangus female was Ms Brinks Garrett 784S6, a fall 2006 female, selling to The Oaks Farm for $7,250.  Following her was Ms Brinks Garrett 40S26, another fall 2006 female selling to Lewis and Kathey Rice for $7,000.

The Oaks Farms’ Brangus female, WAT Latigo Queen 803P4, a fall 2004 cow with a fall 2007 heifer-calf at side, was the high selling consigned Brangus female. She sold to Vaughn Land and Cattle (Josie Vaughn) for $5,750. The second high selling consigned female was Dougets Zena 103S5, a fall 2006 heifer selling to Justin Shrader, Shepherd, TX for $5,500.

Other highlights included a Brangus heifer calf pregnancy sired by Singletary of Brinks 675R, the Lead Gun son who sold in the 2007 Camp Cooley Ranch Fall Bull Sale, and out of Miss Brinks Typesetter 201L6. This lot was consigned by Double W Ranch and sold for $4,250 Scott Spangler.

The volume buyer in commercial female sale was Bob Hendon, of Three H Ranch with a purchase of 87 females. Ross Putnal took home 53 commercial females for the second high volume buyer spot.

In the Commercial female sale, repeat customer Mark Turner of Rolke Ranch purchased the high selling pen of commercial pairs for $2050 per head. They were consigned by Kaechele Ranch. Chip Gibson of Triple JR Cattle bought the second high selling pen, which consisted of six open heifers at $1,775 each.  They were consigned by Farris Ranching Co.

123 December pairs grossed $176,625.00 and averaged $1435,98, 29 heavy breds grossed $36,250.00 and averaged $1,250.00, 68 fall bred heifers grossed $100,350.00 and averaged $1,475.74, 40 exposed heifers grossed $48,925.00 and averaged $1,223.13, 94 open heifers grossed $114,925.00 and averaged $1,222.61. Ultimately 354 commercial females grossed $477,075.00 and averaged $1,347.67.

Camp Cooley Ranch will host three more sales this spring. April 12th, 2008 it will have a Bull Sale at Producers Livestock Auction, in San Angelo, TX. April 25, 2008 it will have a Charolais Female Sale at the ranch, in Franklin, TX. April 28, 2008 it will have an Angus Female Sale at the ranch in Franklin, TX. Camp Cooley Ranch will also host the Texas Angus Challenge II on April 26, 2008 at 6:30PM at the ranch in Franklin, TX.
