

Camp Cooley's 2007 Herd Builder Sale Spreads Performance Genetics Across U.S.

Franklin, TX - Buyers from the nation's top beef-producing states converged on Franklin, TX, March 30-31 to purchase Camp Cooley Ranch's performance-driven genetics in its 2007 Herd Builder Sale.
The two-day offering included Brangus, Angus and Charolais bulls for both registered and commercial producers in the Spring Bull Sale on March 30. The following day, Camp Cooley Ranch and 31 of its customers offered top quality maternal genetics for registered herds and commercial replacements in the Customer Appreciation Sale. This female offering included registered Brangus and Red Brangus and commercial Brangus cattle.
The bull sale grossed $736,900 on 246 lots to average $2,990. The Customer Appreciation Sale grossed $2,621,070 on 1,340 lots to average $1,956. Commercial females grossed $595,970 on 518 lots to average $1,151.
Half semen interest in Garrett of Brinks 789P, a 3-year-old Brangus bull sired by Best Bet of Brinks 535H38, topped the Spring Bull Sale. He sold for $27,000 to Johnny Vines of Quail Creek Brangus, Steele, AL, and Charlie Israel of Birmingham, AL .
Half semen interest and full possession in the yearling spring Brangus bull Stephens of Brinks 535S8 sold to Ralph Schmidt, Schmidt Land & Cattle, Schulenburg, TX , for $18,000. Caldwell of Brinks 468S12, another yearling spring bull, sold for $13,000 to Joe A. Pennington of Raymondville, TX , to round out the top Brangus bull selections.
Camp Cooley 's top selling Charolais bull was a coming 2-year-old fall bull named Cooley Sherman 9731R6. He sold for $8,500 to Kerry Reed, Reed Land and Cattle Co., Seminole, OK.
Gary Cross & Associates, Bryan, TX , bought on order the top selling Angus bull, Cooley Eastland 700R9, a coming 2-year-old fall bull, for $5,000. Cross represented Melvin John.
The high selling lot in the second day's Customer Appreciation Sale was the “herd building pair” Ms. Brinks Transformer 607N32 with a Bear Bryant of Brinks 1000N6 heifer calf at side. The Brangus pair sold for $26,000 to John and Sherry Milam of Draggin' M Ranch of El Dorado, AR.
A flush of Miss Brinks Transformer 795H owned by Mike Weather's Genesis Ranch at Columbus, TX, sold for $16,000 to The Oaks Farm owned by Joe and Catherine Kassler of Newnan, GA. Progeny sired by Camp Cooley bulls out of this Genesis Brangus female have generated more than $130,000 in sales.
Another Brangus flush of Ms Backside 468P, offered by Schultz Cattle Company, Stewart Family Ranches and Lazy 3 Cattle Company, brought $15,000 from James H. Bell of Rocking Bell Ranch Inc. of Gentry, AR. Bell also bought the high selling open Brangus female, Miss Brinks Cadence 607K12, a 7-year-old proven embryo producer, for $13,000. She was consigned by TJM Brangus of Ingram, TX, and sold with an Alydar heifer calf at side.
The high selling bred Brangus female was Miss Brinks Lead Time 193L, a 6-year-old Camp Cooley Ranch cow that sold AI'd to Lambert of Brinks 317R3 and exposed to Gifford of Brinks 415R15. She sold for $12,500 with bull calf at side sired by Bear Bryant of Brinks 1000N6 to Alan B. Roberts of Roberts Ranch, Giddings , TX.
In the commercial female replacement sale, repeat customer, Jack Linder of Four Jacks Ranch, purchased the high selling pen of commercial pairs for $1650 per head. Gary Dillahunty returned to the cattle business with his purchase of thirty six bred heifers at an average of $1645 per head. At the top of the open heifer category, S.E. Glass purchased nine head at a $1600 average.
133 pairs grossed $185,965 to average $1,398; 301 bred heifers grossed $316,155 to average $1,050; and 82 open heifers grossed $90,650 to average $1,105. In total, 518 head sold to average $1,150.
